Trials and Tribulations

A very good friend of four of us, who sadly left us a couple of years ago, had a holiday philosophy that went something like:

On any extended holiday it is highly likely that something can and will go wrong. You best course of action is to take appropriate action and not let that incident define your holiday. So take the good with the bad, and move on.

So with that in mind I will list the sort of things that have happened to this group of four couples so far. Names will not be supplied so please do not risk offence by asking for such information.
  • Skylight somehow disappeared off the top of the caravan. Subsequent rain dampened the mattress underneath. Status - replaced.
  • A change of mobile phone carrier to a supplier who uses the Telstra network did not realise that the new provider does not used the Telstra network in remote places - so no coverage in Streaky Bay.  Status - New carrier.
  • A caravan with a shower and toilet arrived at a free camp site to suddenly realise that someone forgot to fill the water tank. Status - red face.
  • The hinge on a side-caravan-trapdoor broke.  Status - outstanding.
  • The cable that allows the roof on the caravan to be lifted snapped, preventing the roof from being lifted.  Status - fixed
  • Second spare tyre disappeared off the back of a caravan - never to be seen again.  Status - no action.
  • Pod coffee machine behaving badly.  Status - replaced.
  • 12/240 volt car fridge died.  Status - replaced.
  • Leaking water tank.  Status - fixed.
  • Ruptured water tank hose.  Status - fixed.
  • Faulty latch on rear tail-gate resulting in workaround solution.  Status - fixed.
  • Blocked water tap in sink (from vegy peelings). Status - Won't do that again!
  • An important tourism booking for mid July was somehow made for mid June. Status - A late change avoided an expensive blunder.
  • Broken tail-gate window on twin cab ute.  Status - replaced.
  • Broken tooth.  Status - repaired.
  • Broken gas regulator. Status - The owner had a spare.
  • Faulty camera. Later declared deceased.  Status - replaced.
  • Faulty valve on caravan tyre.  Status - replaced.
  • Missing key for lock on caravan spare tyre.  Status - Dunno.
  • Part missing off spectacles.  Status - replaced.
  • Take TWO - The cable that allows the roof on the caravan to be lifted snapped, preventing the roof from being lifted. Status - Caravan on truck to Melbourne.
  • Mobile phone had to be rebuilt.  Status - bottle of red.
  • PC becomes defective. Later to be declared "gone".  Status - Awaiting return to Melbourne.
  • Electrical problem affecting the toilet flushing system in a caravan.  Status - fixed.
  • Car ignition key becomes defective. Status - replaced.
  • Watch battery dead and cannot be replaced in WA outside Perth.  Status - new watch.
  • One event - Broken stool, broken wine glass, spilled red wine, sore knee. Status - Self esteem lowered. Stool discarded.
  • Car driving light comes loose.  Status - fixed with tape.
  • Car undercarriage comes loose, requiring cable ties.  Status - cables.
  • Caravan handbrake cable breaks.  Status - replaced.
  • Caravan spring housing weld breaks.  Status - weld welded.
  • Same mobile phone had to be replaced.
  • Microwave died.  Status - outstanding.
  • Caravan table leg has broken metal weld.  Status - welded.

Although they will be remembered, none of these things will define our holiday.

  2. The list is slowly growing however a good idea to not let them define your holiday. Enjoy.
